This month, Southern New Hampshire Services joins over 1,000 Community Action Agencies across the country in celebrating Community Action Month. Held each May, Community Action Month recognizes the success of members of the national Community Action Network in addressing the causes and effects of poverty.

Community Action Month offers an opportunity to recognize the impact Community Action has in the lives of individuals and families, including those who live in the Hillsborough and Rockingham County communities served by Southern New Hampshire Services.

Residents in every one of the 68 cities or towns in Hillsborough and Rockingham Counties benefitted from at least one – if not several – of the programs offered through our Community Action agency.Community Action Agencies are successful every day in helping families achieve economic security. Given that the needs of each family and community are unique, Community Action is able to use a range of resources and programs to meet local needs in creative and impactful ways.

Each Community Action Agency is a non-profit private or a public organization established under the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964 to fight America’s War on Poverty and help people to help themselves in achieving self-sufficiency.
