RSVP Receives Funding for Hillsborough County Senior Volunteers
Southern New Hampshire Services’ Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) announced that they were awarded a grant to support senior volunteer activities from the Corporation of National and Community Service (CNCS).
The funds were awarded as part of a competitive grant process for RSVP, one of three Senior Corps programs administered by CNCS. Established in 1971, RSVP engages older Americans in volunteer opportunities across the country. These volunteers have been a critical resource for nationwide response efforts—in everything from hunger prevention to natural disasters including Hurricane Sandy.
“Our Hillsborough County volunteers are helping to transform the lives of the people they serve in a variety of ways,” said Dee Martin, SNHS’ volunteer services director. “They provide critical disaster assistance, move people toward financial independence, make a difference for local youth by assisting in classrooms, help seniors improve their quality of life by helping keep them safe and secure in their own homes, and help veterans transition into civilian life.
The dedication of RSVP volunteers shows that service benefits not only organizations, but those who serve as well,” she said.
This grant is one of 175 RSVP awards provided to volunteer organizations across the country to support senior volunteer activities in areas including education and veterans and military families.
Signature SNHS RSVP programs include RSVP Bone Builders, the RSVP Fixit Corps. CATCH Healthy Habits, the Pen Pal Program and Thresholds and Decisions. The program involves over 424 seniors in Hillsborough County.
In addition to Martin, RSVP staff includes Lyn Collins, Program Coordinator for Manchester area and Nick Copadis, Program Coordinator for the Nashua area.
