Hannaford Supermarkets has presented Southern New Hampshire Services (SNHS), the community action partnership for Hillsborough and Rockingham Counties, with a donation of $25,000 to support low-income families by working with the entire family unit to address obstacles and challenges that are in the way of breaking the cycle of generational poverty.

“Hannaford Supermarkets has once again shown themselves to be a caring and generous member of our communities. Now more than ever the need to consider the whole family and make efforts to support them in all areas of need at the same time as opposed to trying to tackle one issue at a time, is vital to prevent the family from sliding deeper into uncertainty by lifting them up in all areas, said SNHS Executive Director Donnalee Lozeau. “As Southern New Hampshire Services embarks on a Whole Family Approach these funds will allow us to help families with not only food insecurities, but job security, safe and affordable child care, and housing. We are so grateful to be a partner with Hannaford in putting the “action” in Community Action.”

The Whole Family Approach operates through the lens of social determinants of health, which can have a major impact on the future health and socioeconomic success of children. Examples of the social determinants of health are access to resources to meet daily needs, access to health care services, access to quality education, and access to job opportunities.

With this approach SNHS will engage families in designing the service delivery model, take into consideration the needs of all family members in the delivery of services, reduce obstacles to receiving services, empower families to create their goals which will be achieved with the guidance of a Whole Family Coach, coordinated service delivery with community partner agencies and place emphasis on Workforce Development, Financial Literacy, social determinants of health, and social capital to support long-term economic stability.
